Local activist advocates for peace

While it seems America is perpetually at war, retired lawyer Karen Porter is fighting hard for peace.
John Lennon might have asked us to give peace a chance, but Porter, a peace activist, is battling in the trenches to end war by more than just chance.
Porter and I recently met over coffee at Northbrook Marketplace. She was multi-tasking and had to move an iPad, cell phone, magazine and paperback novel to make room for my legal pad.
“War never achieves anything,” Porter said. “Look at what the Iraq War has wrought. Look at the mess the Middle East is in today.”
In 2002, Porter founded the Chester County Peace Movement, which is best known for its weekly peace vigils at the historic courthouse in West Chester….
