2014 PENNSYLVANIA STATE DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE

Stephanie Phillips Markstein
Stephanie Phillips Markstein became active in Chester County politics in 2000. She was a founding member of the local progressive group 2CDC and worked for the Kerry campaign. In 2006, she was elected a committeeperson and Vice Chair of the WC Democratic Committee. She was the Volunteer Coordinator in Barbara McIlvaine-Smith’s successful runs for the State House seat in 2006 and 2008. Stephanie was a co-team leader for the Obama campaign. She wrote and performed “Yes We Can,” which became the campaign’s unofficial Chester County theme song. In 2010, Stephanie became WC Democratic Chair. In 2012 she was Bret Binder’s Volunteer Coordinator in his 156th State House district bid. In 2013, Stephanie helped secure favorable results for all four Democratic candidates for Borough Council races and for the bipartisan team for WCASD school board. Stephanie has helped lead the Borough to an almost 2-1 Democrats to Republicans registration advantage. She champions local Democratic issues, including historic preservation, public schools (which her two daughters attend), and the rights of the disadvantaged. Her conviction that politics begins at the local level drives her efforts to bring more people into the Democratic fold and to involve them in the community. In running for Democratic State Committee, Stephanie is committed to making Chester County residents aware of the Democratic process at the state level and how it affects their local communities.
Bill Scott volunteered to work for the Chester County Democratic Party for the first time in 1964—making this his 50th year as an active Chester County Democrat. Previous to that he was a member of Citizens for Kennedy in 1960 and President of the Rutgers College Democrats (New Brunswick). Bill has long years of service on both the County and State Committees and on their Executive Committees. He has been a District and a Zone Leader, a Delegate to the National Convention, and nominee for County Commissioner. Bill is now in his third term on the West Chester Borough Council and has served a term as President of that body. He has participated in the campaigns of Democratic candidates in every election cycle. As a current member of the State Committee, Bill makes every effort to best represent us. He was the only one of our State delegation who voted to endorse Joe Sestak for Senate. Although not required, Bill has repeatedly informed us about upcoming State Committee meetings to the extent that he could and he will continue to do so. Bill Scott states that the most important reason to vote for him for State Committee is his decades long service as a precinct Committee person.
All the Democratic candidates below won election in 2013
and now serve our Borough in office.
