WEST CHESTER – A West Chester borough council member has been appointed to the team monitoring the recount of votes cast in the Florida election for governor and U.S. Senator.
Bill Scott, 73, traveled to the Philadelphia Airport Thursday afternoon in a snowstorm, en route to Florida. With just minutes to go before the Thursday deadline, Broward County has finally finished the machine recount of the votes.
The five-day sprint to run ballots in Florida through counting machines for a second time ended Thursday, with the state ordering a manual recount of results in the U.S. Senate race, where about 12,600 votes separated Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson from Republican Rick Scott, the state’s governor. No such measure was ordered in the governor’s race, where former Congressman Ron DeSantis, a Republican, held an edge over Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a Democrat.
Scott will be directly involved in that manual recount.
“I’ve been involved in two recounts (in Pennsylvania) before, and I believe it will be the same situation,” said Scott, a lifelong Democrat. …
